HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a group of viruses that include nearly 150 genotypes, around 30 - 40 of those can be transmitted through sexual contact, leading to infection of human genital organs.
According to the Department of Health of Hong Kong, to those, regardless of male and female, with sexual activity, there is a chance of 75% (at highest) to have infected HPV. Different genotypes of HPV lead to different symptoms and diseases; If repeatedly infected by high risk HPV types, it is possible to develop precancerous lesion or even invasive cancer, such as cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, anal cancer, etc. More details as below:
