Flu vaccine ingredients

The WHO recommends that quadrivalent vaccines for use in the 2024-2025 northern hemisphere influenza season contain the following:

• A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
• A/Thailand/8/2022 (H3N2)-like virus;
• B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus
• B/Phuket/3073/2013 (B/Yamagata lineage)-like virus

Flu Vaccine Recommendation and Dosages

The influenza vaccine we offer is suitable for people aged 6 months and above (by the injection day)
Children aged 6 months to under 9 years old:
If you have received influenza vaccine in the past: get one dose
If vaccinated for the first time: Two doses given at least 4 weeks apart

Ages 9 or older: One dose
Note: People with bleeding disorders or those taking anticoagulants should consult a doctor. If you have a fever on the day of vaccination, you are advised to postpone vaccination until recovery.

Who is at higher risk of getting influenza? Influenza vaccination is a priority

The Scientific Committee on Vaccine-Preventable Diseases recommends that the following high-risk groups be given priority for influenza vaccination because they are more likely to develop severe influenza or spread influenza to others:

• Healthcare workers
• Persons aged 50 or above
• Pregnant woman
• People living in care facilities, such as residential care homes for the elderly and residential care homes for the disabled
• People with chronic medical problems
• Children and adolescents aged 6 months to under 18 years old, or persons aged 18 years or above studying in Hong Kong secondary schools
• People engaged in the poultry industry
• Persons engaged in pig farmers and pig-slaughtering industry

Even those who are not at high risk are still suitable to receive influenza vaccination to protect their personal health.
